DHL Express plans King County layoff. It is Time to Use Your -Less Expensive- Local Courier

Courier service DHL Express plans to cut about 225 employees in King County next month, according to a letter it sent to Washington's Employment Security Department.

DHL, of Plantation, Fla., plans to lay off 68 workers at its Marginal Way facility on Jan. 18, it wrote in a letter to the state. The letter didn't say whether that facility will close.

DHL also reportedly said it will close four facilities -- in Bellevue, Bothell, Fife and Kent -- the same day, laying off 187 workers.

The agency disclosed the cuts in an e-mail to the Seattle P-I. Under federal law, the agency can't provide more details from DHL's letter or the letter itself, it said.

DHL last week announced it's eliminating all domestic service Jan. 30 and will be focusing entirely on international service.
