E-mail
Dear Client, We Won And You Won Expedited Courier Group recently testified on a hearing at the House of Delegate Office of Economics & Matters in Annapolis along with the newly formed Maryland Courier and Messenger Association and their lobbyist Mr. Bruce Bereano in regards to its opposition to HB 819 and 1070 and Senate bill 909 and in regards to the independent contractor status and operation of parcel delivery and couriers under 150 pounds. “If these bills would have passed without our combined lobbying efforts, the cost of courier services in Maryland would had increased as much as 3 times of what courier companies currently charge in order to stay in business and most of the independent contract drivers would had to be reclassified as employees” said Amir Miremadi the Executive Director of Expedited Courier Group. Dear Client,

We Won And You Won

Expedited Courier Group recently testified on a hearing at the House of Delegate Office of Economics & Matters in Annapolis along with the newly formed Maryland Courier and Messenger Association and their lobbyist Mr.

The testifying process consisted of a presentation by our association and 2 more panels. The panel consisted of 5 drivers testifying in addition to a panel of 5 courier owners. The drivers testified on the facts of wanting to be able to be flexible as to when they want to work and for whom.  The owners testified on the difficulties of being a small business owner and the high cost of insurance and fuel and the fact that these bills would destroy the existence of  200 courier companies existing in Maryland.

Most House of delegate members had no idea of our business and the difference of us with the national overnight companies and the fact that independent contractors worked since the pony express and the post office has over 150,000 drivers that are independent contractors and carry parcel less than 150 pounds every day.

The Results:
The House of Delegate Office of Economic and Matters voted 19-4 to drop the parcel package delivery companies from the House bill 819 and 1070. The senate will most likely follow the same ruling but the Maryland Courier and Messenger Association lobbying efforts has to continue to make sure this bill is not reintroduced at a later date.

Please ask your courier company if they belong to the association if not urge them to join as it is not fair to the 12 companies who shared the expense to fight this bill and protect the preserve of the courier industry in the state of Maryland.

We shall keep you updated on our federal and national efforts in the future.

Testimonials
“Before using Expedited Courier Group we were using two other local carriers and neither was satisfactory. One day last year, we needed some items that had to be in Washington, DC by 5 p.m. After two companies could not guarantee delivery, we called a friend and she recommended your company. Continue your excellent service.”
